FAQ

Below you will find some frequently asked questions. If you are not able to find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact one of our agents.

What happens if I forget my password?

With the Premium service or the Assisted service you can call our 24/7 helpdesk if you have forgotten your password and locked yourself out. Password reset can’t be done over email for security reasons. You will need to identify yourself with the personal authentication questions that you submitted at sign-up and our helpdesk will help you straight away.

What happens if I enter the wrong password?

After a number of failed login attempts your computer is locked. To open it up again you need to call our helpdesk and provide the answers to the authentication questions.

Which operating systems are supported?

AlertSec supports Windows 7, 8, and Windows 10 (please see “System requirements” for latest update on support for versions). We do not support Mac OS or Linux.

Will Word Docs look the same?

Yes, all applications work just like before – email, Word, PPT, Excel – all of them. Encryption is transparent to the user and applications.

Will AlertSec slow the machine down?

No, once you are using the machine you will not be able to see any difference in performance. During the installation process, you should expect a slight impact on the performance until the hard disk has been fully encrypted. You can monitor the encryption progress by accessing the “Manage BitLocker” page in the Control Panel/System and Security, or by tapping on the Yellow Padlock if you are using the Premium service.

What should I do when it is time to scrap my computer?

The best way to dispose of a computer is to keep the hard drive encrypted, and reformat the drive. This is best done by re-installing the Windows OS.

Can you access my data?

AlertSec does not host any of your data or have remote access to your computer.

How long time does it take to encrypt a computer?

That depends on the size of the hard drive, the speed of your processor, and how much you use your computer during the process. Encrypting a computer normally takes a few hours, so leave it on until finished. You can work on your computer while it’s encrypting.

What happens if the computer shuts down during the encryption?

No problem. The encryption process is a stable process and will continue where it left off as soon as it is powered up again.

How do I uninstall?

For BitLocker installations: Go to the Control Panel/System and Security/BitLocker Drive Encryption and click on “Turn off BitLocker”.

For the Premium service: Go to “Add or Remove Programs” and “Check Point Endpoint Security”.

I have anti-malware installed on my computer. Will that interfere with the encryption software?

No, Anti-malware does not interfere with the encryption.

Will my files be encrypted when I email them now?

No, Full Disk Encryption encrypts data stored on your computer. When you transfer the data to somewhere else, the data is in clear text.

Will back-ups be encrypted as well?

No, any information being exported from the PC will be in clear text as it is automatically decrypted when it leaves the computer. We always recommend taking back-ups at regular intervals.

I have all my applications in the cloud. Do I really need to encrypt my computer?

Yes, most likely you store the login credentials for your cloud applications on your computer. If the computer is hacked, the perpetrator has access to your login information. Also, quite often, documents that you have worked on will be saved on your computer’s hard drive even after logging off from a cloud service.

Will my computer be able to print documents from my wi-fi printer

Yes, your computer works just like it did without encryption.
